Great weekend, wonderful day off!!!

Hello again! Sorry, I don’t mean to rub it in that I have the day off today, but it was certainly well deserved.

This last weekend I had a carnival at my school to raise money for scholarships. Every homeroom has to put forth time and determination to create a booth and sell food or do an activity. We sold hamburgers and hotdogs that tasted like shoe leather. Good enough. Last year, I ran the most popular booth, so I am glad this years booth was a little more relaxed. Today is the carnival cleanup day, so they give the students the day off so we won't interfere with the breakdown of all the festivities.

On Friday I was the lead photographer at the Carnival kickoff dinner for the parents. I got some community service hours and free appetizers. This morning I got up and went to the zoo to take pictures with my photo club. A whopping three people showed up today as opposed to the last trip, where only one student went. We took plenty of nice pictures in the Aviary. I am still trying to figure out how to post photos on our blogging software, as soon as I can figure out how I will be happy to share some of my hobby with you.

Signing off,

A valuble lesson!

Today I learned a valuable lesson thank everyone needs to learn from!

The other day my teacher announced we were going to have a quiz on our independent reading books. So like every responsible student, I went home and read the material and studied for my upcoming quiz.

I walk into class, pull out my #2 pencil, and prepare to take my multiple choice, scan-tron quiz. I answer the thirty questions on our reading material in about fifteen minutes and put my pencil down and wait for the teacher to collect our test papers. She announces that we had ten minutes left and thought "Well, I think I'll check my work"... the worst mistake I ever made! As I read through the questions, I began to have second thoughts about quite a few of the questions. I changed the answers and hoped for the best. After the teacher collected the papers we went over our quiz.

Every answer I changed was originally right!!!! My grade on that quiz dropped dramatically!!!

As I look back, I am glad I made this mistake on a simple English quiz rather than a final exam or a standardized test such as the SAT.

In conclusion, if and when you take a multiple choice test go with your first answer NOT your gut feeling.

Is second semester another grade or the second half of ninth grade?

It seems that second semester is much more difficult than first semester. Last week was the tour on the Navy destroyer. Two words:VERY COOL!!!! It was my first encounter with our government's defenses and honestly I am very impressed. I can say that the movies do depict the Navy very well.

My science teacher already told us he is stepping it up for this semester and cracking down on slack. With the last test he gave he certainly proved his point, crippling more than half the class.

When my English teacher left us at the end of January on maternity leave, she was replaced by a very stern, tough love professor. Our new teacher enforces application rather than memorization so it is much more difficult to study for her class.

The difficulty has sky rocketed! I just have to keep telling myself, WELCOME TO HIGH SCHOOL!

Reading My Way to Recovery

Last Saturday was the annual alumni game. The game started at 10:00 and, as always, the alumni arrived about 10:15. Only seven alumni players showed up for the game and I, and three other varsity players, had to play on the alumni team. We won the game, three to two, in a shootout.

Today, I checked out of school at noon. There is a bug going around and, unfortunately, I caught it. While I've been at home, I have been lying on the couch, reading The Count of Monte Cristo, and eating saltines to settle my stomach. For all of you who haven't read The Count of Monte Cristo, you should read it. It is an addicting read and my new favorite book. I feel awful, so I'm going to read a little more and then hit the sack.

Welcome February

Welcome February! One hundred and nineteen days left until the end of the school year! I am counting every second down.

Next week I choose my electives for tenth grade. I have already been approved for newspaper and I am at the top of the list of applicants! The instructor has to handpick only a handful out of the hundreds of students applying.

Yesterday was my fifteenth birthday, I received lots of cash and a brand new top of the line (Really cool!) cell phone! We didn't do much on my birthday due to the fact I have been in school, so in the next couple of weeks we will be going to a really upper class restaurant for lunch. I plan to take my driving test this weekend and get my license the next.

Last weekend, I ran in a 5k race to benefit a charity. This upcoming weekend I will be going upstate for ERG sprints with my rowing team. The following weekend I have been asked to be apart of a tour with my school of one of the newly commissioned NAVY destroyer. You can say I have a busy couple of weeks ahead.
