Tornado Thursday & Fire Friday

It was third period on a stormy Thursday morning. My classmates and I were busy working on math, when all of a sudden, a loud siren sounded from the p.a. system in the classroom. My math teacher, and the other teachers on the third floor, had no idea what was happening. It was a tornado warning! Quickly, my fellow classmates and I marched down the stairs to the ground floor. We had to sit facing the lockers for forty-five minutes. Thankfully, the tornado did not hit our area and and we were able to return to our normal schedule.

Friday, I got out of drawing and comp. early and headed to the restroom to put my hair up in a ponytail. Once I was done putting my hair up, I went back outside to the hall and found everyone walking to the bluff. I asked one of my classmates what was happening and soon found out that there had been a fire in the gym. Since there is no p.a. in the bathroom, I had no clue what was happening. The school stayed on the bluff for about fifteen minutes and then we were allowed to return to our classes. We soon found out that a dryer in one of the lockerooms had caught fire and was burnt to a crisp. I was relieved that nobody was hurt and there was no damage to the gym.

It was a long, but exciting, week at school! We have three weeks remaining until the beginning of finals. My social life, except for a graduation party or two, is about to come to a screeching halt.

Making room for a full plate!

As most of you recall, I had mentioned my busy schedule in one of my blogs titled "Why I hate Wednesdays". Now I no longer hate Wednesdays and my schedule is much less crowded. It is a bittersweet ending to my Crew season, last weekend I went to my last regatta which my school was sponsoring; we won the regatta with forty second lead on the other boat, and to top it off I won my second medal in my second regatta! Even better, it was my first gold medal! That was a nice way to top off my rowing season. I will work on honing my rowing skills over the summer so I will be rowing at Regattas more often.

Actually, the season ended for me in just the right time. We have roughly four weeks until the finals start and this is my time to get my 3.7 GPA back up to or as close to a 4.0 as possible. I have an major essay project due Tuesday, which counts as a test grade in my Theology class and my English class. I will present it to you after I am finished.

On May 7th, I will be inducted as President of the "A.L.P.H.A. Clubs" (A club for the arts such as: art, literature, PHOTOGRAPHY, humanities, and acting.) for the 2007-2008 school year. I have taken this well respected office to show that a tenth grader can run an organization, even better than the seniors. I have many ideas I am willing to propose and execute such as recreating a darkroom for the school and uniting the clubs into a large art show!

I have allot to do before the end of the year, curricular and extracurricular and I will just have to "Get it Done" and get it done right!

A Wonderful Concert, Followed by Beautiful Weather

Nickel Creek was fabulous. The show lasted four hours and I enjoyed every minute. All three band members had a great sense of humor, which made for a very entertaining show. It was a great way to spend a Sunday evening.

Last week we had groundbreaking for the new education building at school. The education building will be for the intermediate school and major construction will start over the summer. Our school will also be building a new fine arts building which will house new art classrooms and a theater. When we return to school from summer vacation, our campus will be beginning to take on a whole new look.

We played two soccer games last week and won both. Our last regular season game will be played Tuesday night.  The opposing team on Tuesday night is coached by one of my former coaches. I played recreational league soccer on his team and he was a fantastic coach. It will be the first time he has seen me play for my school and I want our team to play our best. Our remaining games will be the playoff games.

Yesterday, a few of my friends and I went to the river to go tubing. The weather was perfect for boating and tubing. We stayed on the river from 11:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. I was completely whipped when I returned home. The weather we had yesterday always puts me in the mood for summer vacation, which by the way, is only twenty-four school days away! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Welcome Back

I hope you all had as good of a Spring Break as I did! Many days of relaxation and rowing. My crew team had practice every day during my Easter vacation except for Sundays and Good Friday. My original plans were to go up to my cousin's house in mid-state Florida and row with her boyfriend, who used to be a major rowing coach, then shoot over to the other side of the state and spend the rest of the time with my Grandmother. Since I wasn't in a boat at the time, I decided I was going to go upstate and hone my skills with "one on one" coaching. However, a couple of days before the break I found out I was to row the following weekend in a regatta, so I had to stay home.

My week and a half off went like this: I got off of school on Holy Thursday and went back to school this past Monday. Holy Thursday I got up about five thirty and drove over to the beach where we were going to practice that week. I later found out that the canal we were rowing in was salt water and every time we took the boats out of the water we had to wash and wax them. Then, we went home at about twelve-thirty where I did nothing but eat and watch TV (what you're supposed to do on spring break). Good Friday I had off of Crew and my Mom took the day off with me and we spent our day together. Saturday, yet another practice but today we rowed for a couple hours than came in, washed the boats, then ran on the beach.

I then had a very Happy Easter and spending time with my family. Later that night we ate my favorite meal, Rack of Lamb. The next day, I went to practice then went over and spent the rest of the day at her office. Tuesday, I went to practice and upon my return Home I discovered the postman had delivered a package for me. I had ordered an A/V receiver so I could hook surround sound up to my TV and Xbox! I hooked it up and played my Xbox until my Mom got home. Wednesday was simple: practice then bed. Thursday, I went to practice where we rowed than de-rigged the boats to bring them upstate for the regatta, the only problem was we de-rigged and loaded the boats onto the trailer in a torrential rainstorm.

That weekend we drove up to where we had the regatta and had a great time, I won my first medal at my first regatta! After, our victory celebration was at a dinner show where we watched knights battle while having a medieval feast. That Sunday we drove home and it was back to school the next day. Boy did it go quick!!!

This Week in Words

Coming back from spring break is always hard. Facing the alarm clock is a real challenge when you have been sleeping in and hanging out on the beach for a week. I keep reminding myself that summer will soon be here but I know that my main focus is the remaining weeks of school.

Soccer has been good this week. Our coach is very proud of the team. Friday night we faced the number one 1A-4A team in the state.  Unfortunately, we lost 0-3. Our coach wasn't too upset because we played well. Starting next week, we will play our final three games of the regular season.  On May 1st, we will play the first game of the state playoffs for our division. My school will host the first game and if we win we will head to the second game of the playoffs. I'm very excited, but also very nervous!

Today, I am going to see the junior/senior play, It's Murder in the Wings, at 2:00. Afterward, I am going to dinner and a concert with my mom and a friend. We are going to see Nickel Creek. Nickel Creek is a bluegrass/alternative band and they also play their own instruments.

I am about to leave for the play so I will share the details on the play and concert in my next blog. Until then..............have a great week!!!

Spring Break

Sorry I'm so late posting. I have been on spring break for the past week and prior to that I was out of town playing soccer.  I have great news about our soccer team! We played two division games and won both! We are now the champions in our state section!! Our coach was ecstatic and is having special t-shirts made for the team.

Saturday, March 31st, marked the first full day of spring break. Eight of my friends and I headed for the beach. Nine boys from my grade also joined us. The week was very relaxing. No homework, no test, and no papers to write! Just plenty of time to work on our tans and have fun in the sun. The only downer of the trip was that I lost my cell phone while driving a go-kart at a local tourist attraction. Thursday was our last day at the beach and other than the loss of my phone, we had a fantastic time.

For the past few days I have been inside, snuggled up in blankets and an oversized sweatshirt, watching House M.D. on DVD. A cold front moved into our area on Friday and the temperature has been very chilly.

Today, my family and I had Easter lunch at my aunt's house. It has been a beautiful day and as it ends I am growing sad and gloomy because tomorrow I must venture back to the place called......school.
