Branches

When my application was accepted and I learned I would be spending a portion of my summer in Washington, D.C., I knew that there would be several things I would have to work out before I went. I have previously written about purchasing everything from clothes to plane tickets, but the one of the biggest challenges I knew I would encounter is where would I bank when I got there. I currently use a local bank, and whenever I go out of town I just get the cash I need because I know I will not be there long. This time, though, I needed money enough to last me the entire time I am here, which created several issues for me to work through. First, I needed to ensure that I would have enough money in my checking account. I have a debit card that comes with my student checking account (read: free), but in order to use it and not incur overdraft fees or have my card denied for insufficient funds, I knew I would have to get enough money in my account to last me the entire time because I would not be getting a paycheck while I am here and I had no bank here to make a deposit anyway. So I made sure I deposited all of the checks I had from my job at school and then approached my parents about a cash advance. They agreed to spot me the money before my trip and I would pay them back when I got paid after my job in D.C. was over.

More about my preparations in my next entry.
