Merry Christmas! (Again)

Merry Christmas! Today I'm writing from the great state of California where it's actually surprisingly cold at the moment. It's really windy out too. But that's ok because it's Christmas! It's nice to see all of my family again and Christmas dinner is pretty sweet too. There's not much to say about Christmas that hasn't already been said so I'll save you the reading time :-).

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

So I made it through my first semester of college relatively unscathed. I'm (hopefully) a little wiser as to how the whole experience works now. But you know what? I don't even want to think about school for the next month because right now it's WINTER BREAK!!! I get to look forward to an entire month of nothing but guilt-free sleep and relaxation :-) It's going to be niiiiiice.

And with that I bid thee adieu until next year.

Merry Christmas!

Annapolis

I can't really think of anything to write about so I'm going to tell you a story from a couple of weeks ago.

So, one of my friends ended up attending the Naval Academy. Unfortunately, that meant that he had to leave about a month and a half earlier than the rest of us and we didn't get to talk to him for about a month because he had to go through plebe training. After he got his communication privileges back, we got to talk to him every now and then but none of us had seen him for ages.

But luckily, I now live close enough to go visit whenever I want!

We decided to wait until the movie American Gangster came out in theaters before I visited him because we had been waiting on it to come out for months. Finally, the weekend came and I bought a bus ticket (I'm a pro at riding the bus now) and headed over there at around 6 in the morning. After an insanely long bus ride, I finally arrived at the Annapolis bus station and took a cab over to the school. The cab pulled up and he got in and we exchanged pleasantries and then we went to the mall. (I'm not going to elaborate on the goings on and the conversation in the cab and in the mall so just imagine what you would talk about with one of your best friends if you hadn't seen them in 4 months.) We were both totally stoked to go see the movie until we found out that none of the show times would be doable because our day was basically cut into three pieces. (Unfortunately, my buddy had gotten into a little bit of trouble the weekend before and was being punished.)

It wasn't terrible though because we ended up spending the whole day together anyway and we just got to walk around and reminisce and stuff. This also happened to be the weekend when Navy finally beat Notre Dame for the first time in 43 years. The entire school and town went ballistic. It was pretty sweet. But then I had to go home :-(

All in all that was a pretty good Saturday, except for the fact that that Monday I had a Sociology midterm that I ended up not doing so well on…but visiting my friend was definitely worth it :-)

That's all for now!

Free at Last

Yay! After pulling 2 all-nighters in the same week (one for sociology and one for Spanish), I am basically done with school this semester! All that I have to do now is finish 2 film projects. Hopefully, that won't take too long. It should only take me about a day or so, and then I'm free until January. My sociology paper turned out pretty nice. I wrote 7 pages in 6 hours. My Spanish presentation went pretty well also (not counting the weird looks my teacher kept giving our group which I must say were a little distracting). So, after all of that work I think that tonight I'm just going to go watch a movie and go to bed. I'm thinking a 2 PM wake-up call should suffice :-)

Yuck

So I talked to my teacher yesterday and she said that I'm better off taking the final which makes this week a lot less fun. I went from having 2 classes with a lot of work to 3. But, it's ok because I don't have to take any exams during exam week and I get to do nothing during reading days. (Reading days is a period of 3 days during which you have no classes and get to just study. Now, whether or not everyone uses all of those days to study is questionable, but they're still useful if you have exams…which I don't.) So now I've got a sociology paper to write by tomorrow, my writing seminar portfolio due Friday, and my Spanish presentation first thing Friday morning. I love how all of this stuff just kind of comes at you at once when you don't prepare for it in advance.

Next semester I am definitely going to start using Outlook.

Go DJ!

So, Saturday's party was awesome. People didn't show up until around 11:30 (the party was from 10 to 2) but once they did it was on. I had that place going crazy. I have to say that I'm pretty proud of myself :-) With that being said, I made an A on that Sociology paper that I turned in a couple of weeks ago which leaves me at a B+ right now. So, I'm trying to decide whether or not to take the optional final (it's another paper). On the one hand, I would like to get an A, but on the other I don't want to drop to a B/B-. I'm going to go in and ask her tomorrow though and see what she says.

In other news I also have a Spanish presentation due at the end of the week and my group hasn't even met once to plan for it. More on this story and more at 11 :-)
